FAQ

Why matcha?

Matcha is a finely ground green tea powder from Japan, known for its vibrant color, rich aroma, and smooth, umami-forward taste. Unlike regular green tea, you consume the whole leaf, which means a more concentrated experience, both in flavor and benefits.

Our matcha is crafted for people who care about taste first. Aromatic, naturally sweet, and exceptionally smooth, with no bitterness.

Where does your matcha come from?

Our matcha comes from Uji, Kyoto, Japan, one of the most renowned regions for high-quality matcha.
It is single origin, made from the Okumidori variety, and sourced exclusively from the first harvest.

Does matcha contain caffeine?

Yes. Matcha naturally contains caffeine. Our matcha contains 25 mg of caffeine per gram.

What makes matcha different from coffee is the presence of L-theanine, an amino acid naturally found in tea. L-theanine slows the absorption of caffeine, resulting in:

  • Calm, steady energy

  • Improved focus

  • No sharp crash or jitters

Many people describe matcha as a “clean” or “balanced” energy.

Matcha can deliver up to 10 times more antioxidants and 2 to 4 times more L-theanine than a cup of brewed green tea.

How should I store my matcha?

Matcha is sensitive to light, air, heat, and humidity.

For best freshness:

  • Keep it tightly closed

  • Store away from light and moisture

  • A fridge is ideal, but not mandatory

About “Ceremonial Grade”

“Ceremonial” is not a regulated grade in Japan; it’s a commonly used label that helps customers navigate matcha categories. At Maison Rei, quality is defined by what truly matters: terroir, shade-growing, cultivar selection, first-harvest leaves, and traditional tencha processing. Stone-milled into an ultra-fine powder, our matcha delivers a naturally vivid green color, a smooth mouthfeel, and a balanced taste with no bitterness.

What makes your matcha different?

We focus on one thing above all: exceptional taste.

Our matcha is:

  • Ceremonial grade

  • Shade-grown

  • Stone-ground in Japan

  • Naturally sweet, umami-forward, and extremely smooth

If you’re sensitive to bitterness, this matcha is made for you.

Is your matcha organic?

Our matcha is not certified organic.

Organic certification in Japan is extremely costly and not always representative of real farming practices. Instead, we prioritize:

  • Careful cultivation methods

  • A clean, high-quality product

  • Trusted sourcing from experienced producers

We chose transparency and quality over labels.
