Matcha is made from green tea leaves, which naturally contain caffeine. Because matcha uses the entire green tea leaf ground into a fine powder, the caffeine present in the leaf is fully consumed, rather than infused and discarded as with brewed tea.

Step 1

Add 1 teaspoon of matcha powder to a cup. Pour about 70 ml of hot water (warm, not boiling) over the matcha.

Step 2

Whisk using a bamboo whisk or electric frother until the powder is fully dissolved and a light foam forms on top.

Step 3

Enjoy your matcha hot or iced, plain or with your favorite milk. Your matcha is ready to drink.
